About JMt Engineering
JMt Engineering was created with a simple goal: to make geotechnical engineering easier to understand. Soil mechanics and foundation engineering can seem intimidating from the outside, full of dense terminology and formulas that do not always connect back to the physical, intuitive ideas underneath them. This site exists to close that gap.
We write for a broad audience. Some readers are engineering or geology students looking for a plain-language companion to their coursework. Others work in construction, surveying, or related trades and want a better working knowledge of why certain site conditions matter. Many readers are simply curious about how engineers figure out whether the ground under a building, road, or dam can be trusted to hold it up.
Our approach is to explain concepts clearly, build from first principles, and avoid unnecessary jargon wherever possible. When technical terms are necessary, we define them. Articles are researched and written with accuracy as the priority.
JMt Engineering is an independent educational publication. We are not an engineering firm, and we do not provide design services, project-specific evaluations, or professional consultations.
